Within the cooperation of Centre for Human Rights and the Council of Europe, Faculty of Law had an honour to host, for the first time, one high representative of the Council of Europe. Namely, on January 26th 2016 the meeting was held with Mr Philippe Boillat - Director General of the Human Rights and Rule of Law, Council of Europe. In the full Ceremony Room, the meeting started with the welcoming remarks of Prof. Dr. Sima Avramović, Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade who gave his full support to this cooperation. Then, Mr Boillat gave a keynote speech on the topic “Bringing the Human Rights Back Home - The Role of the Faculties”, after which Mr Mikhail Lobov, Head of Human Rights Policy and Co-operation Department, Council of Europe gave a short lecture on the topic: “Europe Recent Developments Regarding the Reform of the European Court of Human Rights”. The meeting was continued with lectures of two professors of Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade, Ms Ivana Krstić, Associate Professor, who spoke on the topic: “The Importance of Legal Education in the Area of Human Rights”, and Mr Tanasije Marinković, Associate Professor, who spoke on the topic: “European Court of Human Rights and National Jurisprudence”. The meeting was attended by Ms Milica Vesovic, Project Co-ordinator, Human Rights National Implementation Division, Council of Europe and Ms Silvija Panovic Djuric, Project Manager, Council of Europe Belgrade Office.

On Tuesday, March 1, 2016, Prof. Dr. Hannes Tretter - Deputy Director in Research Centre for Human Rights, University of Vienna and Coordinator for scientific questions at Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights held lecture on topic: “Hate Speech”. The number of students that followed the lecture, as well as inspiring discussion, indicate the great interest of students for this matter. The lecture is only the first of numerous activities that are going to be organized by Centre for Human Rights in cooperation with Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, having in mind that during the visit of professor Tretter, the agreement on academic cooperation between two institutions was signed. This agreement provides for numerous activities, such as academic exchange, projects, programmes and other forms of cooperation in the field of democracy, rule of law and human rights.

On Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the Hotel “Metropol”, Centre for Human Rights in cooperation with the Council of Europe organized lecture on topic: “Implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights case law at the national level”. The lecture was organized for students of Faculty of Law University of Belgrade, as well as for the students of Police Academy. At the very beginning students were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ivana Krstić, who gave an introduction into the topic, after which Ms Maria Filatova and Ms Dagmara Rajska, both Consultants of the Council of Europe, gave lectures about the Implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights with specific focus on Russian and Polish experience. Finally, the lecture was concluded by Ms Silvija Panović-Đurić, from the Council of Europe, Belgrade Office.

Center for Human Rights organized a meeting and discussion with the American Bar Association (ABA) delegation and law students on 3 March 2017 under the title: legal Education and Practice. Students had an opportunity to hear from guests how human rights are protected in USA and about the challenges this country is currently facing with, as well as to hear how ABA helps faculties to organize legal clinics and to provide pro bono help to citizens in need. Among others, students also had a chance to express their opinions and to hear from the delegation on the organization of U.S. legal education and forms of examination.
